Purpose and Meaning of Spiritual Healing
This Month's Reflection on Healing
Dear friends,
On the 11th of July this year a Spiritual Healing meeting took place during Summerschool in Murad Hassil in Katwijk. I have the privilege to send you a short impression of this meeting.
Before the spiritual healing ceremony Sattva emphasized that it is very important every time again to be aware of the purpose and the meaning of spiritual healing. It is to awaken people to a greater realization of the healing power of the divine spirit. To become more and more conscious of the divinity of our souls, of the divine Healer ouside and within ourselves and to awaken other people to this tremendous power. As said in “The soul, whence and whither”: “The soul, being the divine breath, purifies, revivifies and heals the instrument in which it functions”, our body and our mind.
Sattva quoted words of our Master from the book “Health and Order of Body and Mind”: “What is health? Health is surely wholeness of body, heart and mind, complete harmony of the whole being. Wholeness is also holiness. Nothing short of this should content us”.
Complete harmony of the whole being, wholeness of body, heart and mind, means that no part of us has to be excluded. But not only wholeness of our own being is important, but also wholeness of the whole creation. Harmony between all parts of that creation. We don’t have to exclude any living being. Everything which is excluded is rising against us and everybody who is excluded becomes hostile. In ourselves it is the same. Often it is for fear of the unknown that makes that we exclude something or because we don’t like somebody that we are excluding. Why is it so painful to be excluded? Is it that we know, perhaps unconsciously, in the depth of our being, that we are all parts of the One Being, the Only Being? In one of the Gatha’s Hazrat Inayat Khan says that when the light in our hearts is growing, fear and darkness will disappear. May the Light in our hearts grow! Let us radiate that Light to every living being! Let us be aware of that Oneness in the Only Being.
After silence the ceremony took place. Kafia has read words of Murshid Hidayat concerning spiritual healing.
Spiritual Healing
by Murshid Hidayat Inayat-Khan
"Just as worldly occupations are helpful in order to hold a balanced condition when following the spiritual path, in the same way, it would be wise to adopt medical assistance, in those cases decides to overpower all efforts made in view of a recovery.
Rhythm is the source from which magnetism unfolds and secures physical and psychological well being. Therefore, an appropriate rhythm also applies in simple activities, such as lying, sitting, standing and walking, as well as in sleeping, working, eating, and drinking.
Physical health also requires repose in all activities of the five senses, which normally respond automatically to incoming impressions. In this respect, it is wise to avoid useless loss of energy, although in certain cases, activity, which is stimulating, can certainly be taken into consideration.
Seen from another angle, breath is life itself, and since the five senses are coordinated through the flow of the breath stream (Prana), it is obvious that when developing subtleness, the breath becomes more magnetic, and consequently, there is an increase of the inner awareness of the five senses (Shagal).
There are three characteristic types of breath. The first one has no distinguishable counts either in the inhalation or the exhalation, and the breath becomes thereby chaotic at times. In the second type of breath, the inhalation and exhalation are done on different counts, each being on a different rhythm. In the third type of breath, the counts done on the inhalation and the exhalation are perfectly equal, and they can therefore be harmoniously coordinated to the beats of a sacred word (Wazifa) or to an inspiring phrase.
The hands also communicate magnetism, following positive thoughts, which can be directed to the fingertips, like the finger-touch on the piano keys expresses the feeling heart of the musician. Moses is known to have carried light in his hands (Yadi Baiza), and Zoroaster is also pictured holding burning fire. There are many more examples related to the radiance, which can be awakened in the hands and can also be mentally visualized at any other area in need of spiritual healing. Prayer is certainly a deep source of healing magnetism and reaches the depth of the heart of the patient, when expressed in audible words.
When spiritual healing is done at a distance, the image of the patient is held in mind as being in a perfect state of health, and the breath of the spiritual healer is receptive to the Divine healing power.
In Hindu metaphysics, Nada Bhrama or ‘Sound-God’ is referred to, as being life’s secret, because sound is motion, and nothing takes place without some type of energy as source of motion. When the spiritual healer is attuned to Nada Bhrama, with the purpose of receiving and transmitting the Divine healing power, that humble attitude is offered as a service to God and to humanity."
We wish you very nice summer holidays.
With loving greetings from Kafia and me,
Sattva.
