Harmony

Dear friends,

Let us focus again on the healing prayer: “O Thou, who art all peace, and whose nature is mercy and compassion, send Thy love and Thy peace on the whole of humanity and we pray, unite us all in Thy perfect harmony. Amen."
Hazrat Inayat Khan

Reflections
What are we are asking for, or aspiring to, when we pray: “unite us all in Thy perfect harmony”? Why do we pray for this?

Harmony
In the passages below, Hazrat Inayat Khan offers us some clues for reflection on why we come together in the Spiritual Healing service, as well as some insights about the perfect divine infinite harmony in which we pray to be united.

“Spiritual healing … can be performed by a single being as well as by a group of people. In this case the heart of the healer can send forth its feeling and vibrations, and in accordance with their intensity the subject is healed. In absent spiritual healing the desire spreads forth its rays and reaches the patient wherever he may be … The concentration of several people united together works still more wonderfully.”
Vol. IV, Healing and the Mind World, Part 1, Health

“Man is drawn in two opposite directions by the power of harmony: towards the Infinite and towards manifestation. He is less conscious of the former than of the latter, and by facing towards one direction he loses sight of the other. The Infinite, being the essential spirit of all, finally attracts all to itself. The Sufi gives the greatest importance to harmony with the Infinite which he realises by resignation to the will of God, the Beloved.”
Vol. II, The Mysticism of Sound, Part 1, Harmony

“The innermost being of man is the real being of God; man is always linked with God. If he could only realise it, it is by finding harmony in his own soul that he finds communion with God. All meditation and contemplation are taught with this purpose: to harmonise one’s innermost being with God, so that He is seeing, hearing, thinking through us, and our being is a ray of His light.”
